QUARRIES

The two quarries of the BROCCO group (BROCCO EMILIO sas e GAMMA SRL) have a strong historical and emotional value for the BROCCO family.

Two exclusive materials are quarried: SIENITE and DIORITE stones.

Balma SIENITE is a magmatic intrusive rock with phenocrysts of grey-violet orthoclase. The other minerals are: plagioclase, hornblende, biotite, clinopyroxene and opaque. Accessory minerals are sphene, apatite and quartz. Syenite has a medium grain size and a well developed magmatic flow foliation.

DIORITE is a magmatic intrusive rock . Vico Diorite is a grey to dark grey, intermediate intrusive igneous rock; it consists of plagioclase (oligoclase), alkali feldspar (orthoclase), biotite, hornblende, quartz . Accessory minerals are: magnetite, zircon, apatite and pyrite. Its grain size is fine to medium.
